ABOUT

The comedian W. C. Fields once offered the following advice: “Always carry a flagon of whisky in case of snakebite, and furthermore, always carry a small snake.”

We invite members and select non-members to join for an evening celebrating the most consumed spirit in SA. It is said that 4.1 million South Africans currently drink Whisky and that SA is the 7th largest export market in the world for Scotch Whisky by volume.

University of Pretoria lecturer and SAIChE IChemE Gauteng Chairman, Carl Sandrock will speak about the distilling and aging process, pointing out the unique elements of designing distillation equipment for Whisky in particular from a Chemical Engineering perspective.

The talk will be followed by a guided tasting through a flight of six high-end whiskey samples highlighting the history, unique origins and distilling processes for each. We may even scientifically establish whether adding water is beneficial (or not)..
