ABOUT

It's with great pleasure that we invite new moms, pregnant moms, mom's with more than one child and mom's who just feel like they need to connect, to The New Normal's first event. Episode 1: All you need to know about Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD's) will cover everything related to these conditions as a result of having given birth.

Research Psychologist, Linda Lewis, and Psychiatrist Janine Pingo will be talking about this important topic that often slides under the radar as women in the throes of new motherhood often are in survival mode and therefore disconnected to what's going on with their emotional, mental and physical well-being as they care for their new baby and other children, if they have.
In South Africa the rates of women who are affected with PMAD's is much higher than in first world countries, it is 1 in 3, whereas the latter is 1 in 5 or 1 in 7. These stats show that it is a lot more common than most people and healthcare professionals believe it to be yet there are still many taboos and stigmas around the issues related to this postpartum period in a woman's life.

The New Normal is a platform to bring awareness to the real and honest shared experiences of new and early motherhood because what you’re feeling and going through right now, hundreds of women in your city, country and across the world are too.

A percentage of proceeds will go towards an initiative aimed at providing support for women experiencing PMAD's who cannot afford to get professional help.
