Darkness to Light: A Spring Concert

Penryn Chapel

ABOUT

There is definitely still a bite in the air, but we have had some hints that the cold days are over for the year. And what better way to celebrate that than with music! The Lowveld Chamber Music Association will be presenting a spring concert on the 8th of September at the Penryn Chapel, and headlining the performance will be South Africa's premier violinist, Zanta Hofmeyr.

The first half of the program will be themed towards the dark and the somber. Think of "Winter" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Strauss' Die Nacht, which will be sung by Potchefstroom based soprano, Marilize Hattingh. The Sempre Vino Choral will also add to this mood with The Sounds of Silence, and Gugu Mahlalela with the gorgeous lament from Phantom of the opera, Wishing you were somehow here again.

But before we dwell too much on the darkness, we will switch to the feelings of spring! Brilliant pianist Eugene Joubert will delight with Tchaikovsky's most successful piano work, Dumka, and Zanta with Kreisler's Liebesfreud. Sempre Vino will also chime in with the rather rowdy "Now is the Month of Maying".

These pieces are obviously just a few of the gorgeous musical items that will be heard, so come and enjoy the evening with us. The concert will be at 7pm on Saturday the 8th of September at the Penryn Chapel. Tickets are R140 for adults, R120 for pensioners and R50 for students.

For the first time we are also offering deeply discounted Live streaming video, so you can watch the show from your couch at home!
