ABOUT

The 5K Red Walk is an initiative of Anciph Projects, our goal is to reach as many rural school girls across Africa and empower them to break the barriers that menstruation creates in their lives and help them rise to their full potential.

According to Africa Check, around 3.7 million girls, in South Africa alone, may be missing school each month because of lack of sanitary towels.
According to UNICEF 1 out of 10 African school girls skip school or drop of of school.

Unable to afford or access proper menstrual products, many girls and women rely on crude, improvised materials like scraps of old clothing, pieces of foam mattress, toilet paper and leaves to manage their menstruation, all of which are unhygienic, ineffective, and uncomfortable.

This year, we aim to supply eight rural schools with three years’ worth of sanitary towels. We have identified three schools so far, one in the Eastern Cape and two others in Limpopo. We will then ask our entrants to nominate five other schools. Therefore, the remaining five schools will come from nominations. Our hashtag is #NoMoreLimits in line with the theme set during Menstrual Hygiene Day 2018.
