ABOUT
USB Executive Development invites you to a complimentary Board Leadership workshop at the Gateway Hotel, Durban.
TOPIC: Developing Board Leadership
We are currently inundated with examples of board failure. Directors’ sign up for fiduciary duties which they later seem unable to uphold. Training seems to be one possible solution to the problem, but what kind of training will deliver the desired result? This presentation on Developing Board Leadership will offer attendees valuable insights into effective director and board development. The approach will be as much informative as it will be participative. The focus of the session will not so much be on the knowledge components of board leadership, but on the personal, relational and process related components. The following areas will be covered: the director as ethical person and leader, board decision making for inclusive value creation and the personal and interpersonal challenges of working together in diversity.
SPEAKER: Prof Arnold Smit is the director of USB-ED’s Africa Directors Programme.
His core expertise is in learning process design and programme facilitation in the areas of values-based leadership, director development and sustainability management. As associate professor of Business in Society and head of Social Impact at Stellenbosch Business School, his teaching and research evolves around the integration of ethics, responsibility and sustainability in personal and organisational decision making and practice. He is a board member of the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative and the immediate past president of the Business Ethics Network of Africa.
