ABOUT

Nduduzo Makhatini ft Khaya Mahlangu, LIVE at The Soweto Jazz Explosion.

There's a musical buzz crescendoing in Soweto this April, as the 2018 International Jazz Day festivities set up home in this colourful township, that has been so instrumental in the birth, sustenance and development of the treasure that is South African Jazz.

The Soweto Jazz Explosion are excited to be part of this year's vibrant programming, and will be bringing you a crispy line up of some of the freshest jazz being added to the nations musical fortunes. Brace yourselves Sunday, April 29th, for the once in a Blue moon performance of Nduduzo Makhathini and his Ikhambi project, featuring this year's Honourary elder of the series; Khaya Mahlangu. Nduduzo's masterful musicianship has earned him accolades as esteemed as being the Standard Bank Young Jazz Artist for 2015, all of which have helped spur him on to continue his ceaseless outpouring of spirited work. Longtime musical collaborator Ayanda Sikade, as well as Nhlanhla Radebe and Tebogo Mokoena, are the finishing pieces that make up Nduduzo's outstanding band for the day.

The Live music will be kicked off with an energising performance by emerging Neo-Soul outfit Jazz Cats, whose signature urban point of view is informed by the experiences and musical influences that growing up in Soweto exposed them to. With music off 2 EP's ("Moon Travelling" & "No Days") - creeping into the airwaves this year, we hope that this opportunity for them to perform on a professional platform, affiliated with the pedigree of both Khaya Mahlangu & Nduduzo Makhthini, can elevate the music of the catchy young band to reach a local audience, before their music is appreciated then appropriated by audiences abroad; as it no doubt will do.

Join us Sunday April 29th at The Cape Gate MIAGI centre for music which is housed at the back of the monumental Morris Isaacson Highschool premises, as we continue our efforts to bring both young and older music appreciators together in the name of nurturing the Live Jazz economy, because we believe that Music Is A Great Investment (MIAGI).
