The Event

Join artist James Delaney for a guided walk through the magnificent historic park The Wilds.

Artist James Delaney leads a walk through The Wilds, a beautiful historic park that Delaney has been instrumental in helping to restore and revive through community activism. The walk highlights The Wilds hidden beauty and the ongoing restoration work happening there to transform this once dangerous place into a welcoming public space.

For years The Wilds had a fearsome reputation for crime, based mostly on a terrible crime wave that swept through the area in the 1990s. Artist James Delaney's 2017 Mandela Day event '67 Minutes to take back The Wilds' served as a catalyst for the community movement The Friends of the Wilds led by Delaney and his team of assistants and volunteers, which has rehabilitated the park and restored its positive reputation.

On this #JoziWalk Delaney showcases The Wilds hidden beauty and the ongoing restoration work happening there to transform this once dangerous place into a welcoming public space.

Dogs are welcome to join this #JoziWalk (Delaney takes his own Labrador Pablo out for a walk in The Wilds every day), although owners are requested to please clean up after their dogs.

In particular this JoziWalk highlights the power that community initiatives led by volunteers can have to change perceptions of a place.
