The streets of Joburg have already been conquered by cyclists and runners, but rarely does one drive past the lone skateboarder, never mind a whole group of them. Join Ayanda Mnyandu of City Skate Tours for a guided skateboarding excursion through downtown Joburg.Starting at Beyers Naude Square (the unofficial inner-city skater capital) with a skateboarding lesson, self-confessed “skater boy” and history buff Mnyandu traces Joburg’s early history through the historic neighbourhoods of Marshalltown, Ferreirasdorp, Chinatown and Newtown while also providing insights on the rise of Joburg’s skater scene.
Skateboards will be provided at the start of this #JoziWalk and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
In particular this JoziWalk offers insights into Joburg's myriad youth subcultures, particularly the skating and graffiti scenes, as well as taking a look back over Joburg's 130 year history.
