Fancy experiencing just days before its launch, an album by a great pioneer of South African Nu- Jazz. Here it is, the new one by BJ entitled "The Evolution of an Undefined"
Mitchells Plain born Benjamin Jephta is one of South Africa’s premier jazz double bass and electric bass players, he has been perfroming at venues and festivals locally since the age of 15.
His most rewarding project to date was creating the Benjamin Jephta Quintet’s debut album, Homecoming, which was released in January 2015. The album went on to be nominated for Best Jazz Album at the SA Music Awards as well as the Metro FM Music Awards. Another career highlight was performing at the 2016 Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
Along with other accolades, including two 2016 SAMRO Wawela Awards for Male Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, the graduate from the University of Cape Town’s prestigious South African College of Music recently participated in a collaborative “residency/tour” in the US, which involved 25 musicians from 17 different countries.
Jephta has performed with a range of jazz musicians including McCoy Mrubata, Sibongile Khumalo, Paul Hanmer, Feya Faku, Jimmy Dludlu, Simphiwe Dana, Hugh Masekela, Marcus Wyatt, Kyle Shepherd and many others. His debut album ‘Homecoming’ has been nominated for both a Metro Fm and SAMA award and also won the Wawela SAMRO Award for 'Best Male Artist' and 'Song ofthe Year' in 2016. The Mail & Guadian 200 Young South Africans recipient for 2017 has also performed with various South African artists such as Ricky Rick, Mi Casa, Cassper Nyovest, Tresor, Lira and many more, as well as on TV programs.
