ABOUT

WATER SCARCITY IS THE NEW NORMAL

So saving water must be too. What can you do?

Join us for the Cape Town Water Saving Design Sprint!
14th-15th April 2018, Woodstock Bandwidth Barn, Woodstock Exchange

Since the announcement that Day Zero has been beaten, Cape Town’s water consumption has shot up by 54 million litres per day. Day Zero may have been delayed, but it will never go away. Water scarcity will be an ongoing reality for Cape Town, as the effects of climate change continue to take their toll.

In order to address this challenge, Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative (CiTi) and City of Cape Town have organised a weekend-long Design Sprint at the Woodstock Bandwidth Barn. Participants will be given the challenge to:

‘Design a digital campaign, tool, game or app which will help make water-saving the new normal’.

The weekend will be facilitated by experienced professionals working in the technology and design thinking space.

Why join us?

  • Make a meaningful contribution to one of Cape Town’s biggest challenges – water scarcity.
  • Spend two days working in a fun, energised, problem-solving space with like-minded innovators, designers, technical experts, policy makers and change-makers at the Woodstock Bandwidth Barn (or squirrel away in one of our meeting rooms if your team wants to just get down to business!).
  • Gain experience and skills in design thinking methodology through guided group sessions (optional).
  • Present your ideas and suggestions to a panel of judges from City of Cape Town.
  • Work in inter-disciplinary teams with people who have different skills and backgrounds.

If you have tech and data skills, design skills, a background in behavioural science or just a passion for problem-solving, we want you!

You don’t have to have an idea to join! The design thinking process will be facilitated to allow ideas to come to light. On the other hand, if you’ve got an idea, great! This is the perfect opportunity to have your idea heard by decision-makers in the field. Register a team or join one on the day so you can share your skills and learn new ones too working on one of the city’s biggest priorities.

Participation is FREE and includes food, drink and coaching throughout the weekend.

Briefing for participants will take place on Tuesday 10th April from 6pm – 8.30pm at the Woodstock Bandwidth Barn.
