Opera in the Open! This production of Carmen on the 26th and 27th of May will be a first of its kind in the Lowveld, and will be presented picnic style for the concert goers! This well known and popular opera by the French composer Bizet, is packed with beautiful arias and choruses such as the Habanera and Toreador song. Concert goers will be presented with various seating options: cinema style, café tables and chairs or even blankets and pallet tables. Delicious picnic baskets  as well as carnival foods, soft drinks, wines and more will be available to enjoy in the relaxed atmosphere at the Umbali open air venue.
 
The cast for the opera is a mix of local, national and international artists. The rich-voiced Linette van der Merwe is singing the name role and her jealous lover, Don Jose, is sung by South Africa's principal tenor, Stefan Louw. They will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra, conducted by international heavy weight, JoAnn Kulesza, who is the director of Opera at the famous Peabody Conservatory in the US.
 
The opera will be sung in the original French, but a narrator will guide the audience in this tale of love, deceit, and ultimately, murder! The limited amount of tickets will be available online at quicket.co.za. The concerts will be held at 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday the 26th and 27th of May.
