Bernie Shelley
One of Cape Town’s true surfing legends. 65 years old surfer and Grandma of six potential surfers. Aside from her husband, Alan, surfing is one of the determining elements of her life’s course. Although she didn’t surf for 25 years, stopped travelling and became a mother of 4, she didn’t quit and started surfing again in the early 90’s at the time long boards made a good comeback. She underwent a bilateral hip surgery 3 years ago, but that didn’t keep her out of the water and she continues to surf, compete and travel if given a chance.
 
Hanli Prinsloo
An inspired, passionate freediver, holding multiple South African records, a decade-long competitive freediving career enabled her to travel to and get to know the world’s finest dive locations. Having taught her beloved sport to over 500 individuals, Hanli is a world-class instructor with an unbridled love for sharing the ocean with others.
 
Her passion for the marine ecosystem eventually led her to found the nonprofit I AM WATER Ocean Conservation in 2010, promoting ocean conservation through human experience and reconnecting people with nature.
