ABOUT
Opus 3 presents audiences with a trio of timeless symphonic treats performed by Pretoria Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Gerben Grooten.
Opus 3 offers you a rare opportunity to enjoy a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Piano in C major, Op. 56 (‘Triple concerto’) by three exceptionally talented and accomplished musicians, Camelia Onea (violin), Berthine van Schoor (cello) and Bryan Wallick (piano). The Triple Concerto demands a virtuoso performance by both the three soloists as well as the accompanying symphony orchestra and for this very reason the Triple Concerto is not often presented to audiences in the concert halls of the world.
The trio of treats continues with a unique performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s delightful incidental music to a Midsummer Night’s Dream in which he paints the magical world of a midsummer night’s dream with the sweet sounds of the well-known Nocturne, the tumultuous frolicking of the dancing clowns and the famous wedding march. The unique performance closes with the finale to this scintillating orchestral masterpiece which sees the orchestra joining forces with vocalists from the University of Pretoria’s music department under direction of Hanli Stapela.
Ludwig van Beethoven’s Egmont Overture will lead the audience into the trio of treats which is not to be missed.
