Door open at 18h00 and as usual, we will create a market atmosphere with food and drink being on sale. The relaunch session and interview with Raymond Perrier kicks off at 19h15. There will be opportunities to to engage both with the speaker and get involved with STORY Sessoin initiatives which will outline on the night.

What is STORY Sessions?

We believe in shaping city culture through story. How we choose to live together as citizens determines the story that we will write together. STORY Sessions brings together all who seek to active participants in the writing of a meaningful city story, no matter your background, race, gender or beliefs. Each session is built around key themes and an inspiring voice. Together, through questions and conversation, we explore new language, mindsets and worldviews in re-imagining new ways of doing life together.

Why should you come?

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, then this next session is for you:
  • Are you curious about the possibilities of relationships and adventures that lie beyond your comfort zone?
  • Do you feel stuck in a life that does not quite line up with your core values (and passions)?
  • Have you wanted to build authentic relationships beyond the economic, racial and religious lines that seem to divide our city?
  • Are you keen for your story to contribute to a wider community story?
  • Have you had the courage to imagine who we can become true neighbours to in the city?
Who is our voice at the next session?

Introducing Raymond Perrier

Early in 2015, Raymond was appointed by Cardinal Napier as the first Director of the Denis Hurley Centre – a community centre in the heart of Durban working with different faith groups to help the poor and marginalised of the city. This landmark building has very quickly established its reputation within the city as a place of care, education and community, responding in particular to the xenophobia crisis and to the issues of drug addiction and homelessness.

Raymond’s initial professional formation was in marketing consultancy, working for Interbrand with companies such as SAB Miller, American Express, British Airwards, IBM and BP.  He developed with Business Week an annual league table on the world’s most valuable brands and pioneered a global consulting practice in brand valuation.  He later went on to be the Managing Director of the New York office of interbrand with a staff of 160.

Raymond holds an MA in Philosophy and Theology from New College, Oxford, an MA in Philosophy from the University of London, and an MSc in Human Rights from the London School of Economics. He speaks French, Italian, Spanish and German and is a frequent writer and commentator in newspapers, radio and television.

So how did Raymond find his way from the world of marketing in New York to leading a centre such as Denis Hurley Centre in Durban?
