Estère - the empress of Electric Blue Witch-Hop returns to Johannesburg with Afro-futurists Blinky Bill Music, Mozambican beat maker Nandele, spiritual hip-hop artist from Lesotho Morena Leraba, alongside Jozi favourties Urban Village Music and Pussy Party keeping the vibe going in between.

ESTÈRE (New Zealand / Cameroon)
Estère is a girl with an MPC she calls Lola. With Lola, Estère samples and records a mixture of bass, synth, drums, guitar, vocal harmonies, kazoo, cutlery drawers and anything else that tickles her fancy then layers the production with pulsating rhythms and evocative melodies that adhere to her own genre dubbed - Electric Blue Witch-Hop.

Acclaimed as being a one-of-a-kind performer, Estère’s reputation for exciting, playful performances has seen her open for international artists including Erykah Badu, Flume, Aloe Blacc, and on her first tour of Southern Africa in 2016, she played shows at Bushfire Festival in Swaziland, Zakifo Festival in Durban, Azgo Festival in Mozambique and a headline show at Goodluck Bar.

Estère recently released release MY DESIGN, the first half of her two-part sophomore album MY DESIGN, ON OTHER’S LIVES. Her lead single Pro Bono Techno Zone was listed in Afropunk’s Top 15 #BLACKGIRLMAGIC songs from 2017.

"Estère is stunning; an artist with a seemingly boundless imagination and talent, and a refreshing approach to music making. Breaking free of the often-insipid subject matter of popular music, she delves much, much deeper lyrically; tackling themes such as the evolution of species, the impacts and effects of technology, and our dependence upon, and relationships with, our digital technologies. Estère’s music is music that makes you think. Yet paradoxically, her voice and beats are so mesmerizing that it is almost impossible to not lose yourself in her masterfully crafted soundscapes." - Ambient Light

"One of New Zealand’s most exciting musicians is back! Wellington-based Estère, who defines her distinctive musical genre as “Electric Blue Witch-Hop,” has just dropped My Design (P1), which fuses electronic music with heavy bass and drums, creating a unique juxtapositon that falls right in line with the artist’s noted passion for defying genre. My Design is an immersive experience unlike anything you’ve ever witnessed." - AfroPunk

MORENA LERABA (Lesotho)
Morena Leraba is an artist grounded in simplicity, reticence and impeccable neatness, qualities that are the status quo where he’s from. Born and raised in Mafeteng, a flatland district in the southern part of Lesotho, the 31-year-old rapper’s worldview is informed by a raw rural experience and the solitude that village life has provided him.

His music (especially lyrics) is deeply rooted in Lesotho’s traditional music, poetry, and it’s sub-genre, Famo, which was introduced as early as the 1920s when Basotho men were migrant workers in South African mines. However, the approach in the beat is significantly different as it hurls almost everything from Electro, Electronica, Afro-House and Hip-Hop.

NANDELE (Mozambique)
Nandele is a well known figure in the Maputo music scene and one of the most innovative beat makers and DJs coming from Mozambique. His debut EP "Argolas Deliciosas" features heavy boombap instrumentals, dubstep, trap and psychedelic beats.
