Blackmagic PYXIS Workshop, hosted by Visual Impact Broadcast Solutions
Wed Nov 18, 10:00 - Wed Nov 18, 15:00
Media Hive Building
ABOUT
Free. Two hours. From the camera in your hands to the finished grade.
A remote location. A two person crew. The light is going and the animal will not wait. That is where Sean Viljoen works, and the Blackmagic PYXIS 12K has become what he calls his everything camera.
On Wednesday 18 November, Sean and post production specialist Danielle Nel take the PYXIS 12K through a full workflow at Media Hive in Cape Town, from the first camera setup to the final grade. Book the morning session at 10h00 or the afternoon session at 13h00. Both are free, and both are limited to the room.
Sean Viljoen, on the shoot
Sean is a Cape Town producer, director and cinematographer, and co-founder of Conservation Film Company. He shot Born to Be Wild for Apple TV and The Secret Knowledge of Animals for ARTE. He directs Hard Truths of Conservation for Discovery Channel and History Channel, as well as Defenders of the Wild and Guardians for EarthxTV. His feature Last Horns of Africa was nominated at the Jackson Wild Film Festival, where his short film 12 Cheetahs was a finalist for both cinematography and conservation.
Hear how he builds a camera setup when there is one chance at the shot, and what he has learned shooting in places where nothing can be reset.
Danielle Nel, on post
Danielle runs Post Pixies, a boutique post production collective on the Foreshore in Cape Town, working on episodic series, feature films, documentaries and short films. She is an editor, online and finishing editor and workflow specialist, and builds post workflows from pre-production onward, through offline edit, colour grade, mastering and delivery.
She picks up where the shoot ends, taking Blackmagic RAW into DaVinci Resolve and showing what 12K files actually give you once you are in the grade.
They are joined on the day by Earl Devereux-Quicke of Stage Audio Works, with time for your questions.
