ABOUT
Suits & Sneakers hosts several events each month in Cape Town, each featuring a different guest and theme. The idea is to create a space for ongoing learning that helps you broaden your thinking in a fast changing world. This event will be hosted on the evening of Tuesday, 17 November, at The Tryst in Woodstock.
WHAT IS THIS EVENT ALL ABOUT?
Every weekend, thousands of locals and visitors pour into the Oranjezicht City Farm Market at the V&A Waterfront. It has become an undeniable Cape Town institution, but it certainly didn't start out that way. It took years of hard, unglamorous groundwork to build up. 12 years later, that simple act has grown into a thriving commercial ecosystem supporting more than 100 independent micro-entrepreneurs and directly sustaining over 3,500 downstream jobs.
On Tuesday, 17 November, Suits & Sneakers hosts an intimate fireside chat with Sheryl Ozinsky to pull back the curtain on what it actually took to build one of the most loved markets in the world from scratch. This conversation focuses on what happens behind the scenes:
- Starting With Nothing: The unpolished truth about how the farm and market really began, and what it takes to start moving when you have no roadmap.
- The Business of Small Bets: How tiny, practical adjustments on the ground turn struggling ideas into thriving businesses that create real employment.
- Surviving the High Stakes: What it feels like to face down massive financial risks, navigate near-disasters, and keep going when walking away is the easier choice.
- Building Things That Last: Practical insight into creating an ecosystem that serves the community, backs the underdog, and becomes part of the fabric of a city.
