Earth and Eternity

Earth and Eternity

An exploration of the human experience through the intimate world of art song, Earth and Eternity journeys through landscapes both real and imagined, tracing the shifting boundaries between nature and humanity, love and longing, dreams and disillusionment, the fleeting pleasures of earthly existence and the contemplation of eternity. At the heart of this recital are two remarkable young singers, Matthew de Jager and Derek Meyer. It is rare to encounter two young musicians, still in their final year of school, who have embraced classical music, in particular the genre of art song, with such dedication and artistic seriousness. Their musical maturity, interpretative sensitivity and evident passion for their work are a testament to what can flourish when talent meets genuine commitment.

Join Matthew and Derek, together with their proud families and teachers, in celebrating not only what they have already achieved, but also the musical journeys that lie ahead. Your presence will be an expression of encouragement as these two young musicians take their love of music beyond their school years, and continue to explore and share their gifts in adulthood.

With music by Handel, Schubert, Schumann, Fauré, Hahn, Gurney, Quilter and Warlock.
