ABOUT

How Our Stories About Power Shape the Futures We Create

What can ancient myths and cultural philosophies reveal about the future?

The Western dragon and the Eastern dragon offer different ways of thinking about power. African traditions of ancestors and the philosophy of Ubuntu introduce further questions about heritage, community, responsibility and our relationship with those who came before us.

These are more than stories from the past. They offer lenses through which to examine the assumptions that shape our ideas about leadership, progress, authority and the societies we want to create.

In this thought-provoking exploration, futurist Charlotte Kemp will draw on these cultural metaphors to question how different worldviews influence the futures we imagine and the choices we make to bring them about.

Naturally we can’t define entire cultures through a handful of symbols, but this is an invitation to look beyond familiar perspectives, recognise the stories we inherit, and ask what other possibilities they might reveal.

The future doesn't begin with a blank page. It begins, in part, with the stories we tell each other about what is possible.
