Narcissist’s Playbook | Cape Town Screening
Wed Nov 25, 18:00 - Wed Nov 25, 20:00
The Labia Theatre
ABOUT
South African-born filmmaker Mark Vicente spent more than a decade inside NXIVM, the organization exposed in HBO’s The Vow. After he got out, one question wouldn’t leave him alone: how did I not see it? How do charming, convincing people manipulate everyone around them, and why do so many of us miss the signs?
Narcissist’s Playbook is the answer he spent five years chasing. Instead of relying only on expert commentary, the film sits face to face with self-aware malignant narcissists and lets them explain, in their own words, how they think and how they operate. Their accounts are woven together with the stories of survivors and the insight of psychologists and neuroscientists, creating a rare and unsettling look at a pattern most of us have encountered, whether at work, in families, in relationships or in leadership.
This is a homecoming screening, and Mark will be there in person for a Q&A after the film.
Whether you’ve lived through narcissistic abuse, love someone who has, or simply want to understand the people who seem to bend the world around them, this film will change the way you see things.
