Chapman's Peak Sunset Hike — Cape Town Guided Community Hike
Sat Nov 14, 17:00 - Sat Nov 14, 20:30
Chapman's Peak Trailhead, Chapman's Peak Drive
ABOUT
There are hikes. And then there are moments.
Chapman’s Peak at sunset is one of those moments — the kind where you stop mid-trail, look out over Hout Bay and the Atlantic, and quietly decide that Cape Town is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
This is Trail Keepers Hike 3. Small group (15 max), fully guided, and timed so you reach the summit for golden hour and watch the sun drop into the Atlantic from 593 m up.
QUICK LOOK
Saturday 14 November · Meet 16:45 · Walking at 17:00 · Back down ~20:30
~5.5 km return · ~450 m elevation gain · Moderate · 2.5–3 hours on the trail
Sunset ~19:32 from the summit · Guided headlamp descent
From R250 · 15 spots only
THE TRAIL
We start at the trailhead on Chapman’s Peak Drive and climb a rocky ravine on stone steps, then follow a gentler path through proteas and fynbos around the lower peak with Hout Bay below you. A short, steep scramble takes us to the summit: 360° views over Hout Bay, the Sentinel, Noordhoek Beach and across to Fish Hoek. We stay for sunset, then head down together by headlamp.
It’s a steady uphill on well-defined paths with some rocky sections near the top. Manageable for anyone with a base level of fitness — you don’t need to be a runner, but you should be comfortable on your feet for 2–3 hours of uphill walking, with the last stretch of the descent in low light.
