The Queen of Crime

An illustrated talk on how Agatha Christie conquered Muizenberg and the World

Saturday 28 November at 15h00 at Rhodes Cottage Museum

Join Rosalind Spears on a captivating journey into the extraordinary life of the world's most celebrated mystery writer.

The story begins in Devon, England - Agatha Christie’s birthplace, and the beautiful county Rosalind calls home during the UK summer. We will trace Agatha’s rise to fame, starting with a simple sibling challenge: a dare from her sister to write a detective story. Agatha didn't just write one; she went on to pen 66 legendary crime novels.

Following her marriage to Archie Christie, Agatha embarked on a grand 1922 World Tour. A fascinating highlight of this journey was her time in Muizenberg, South Africa, where she famously conquered the waves on a surfboard.

The adventure continues into the deserts of Syria alongside her second husband, a prominent archaeologist, before returning to Greenway, her idyllic holiday home on the River Dart in Devon. You will get an exclusive visual tour of this stunning estate during the presentation.

With over 2 billion books sold in more than 100 languages, Agatha Christie remains an unmatched global phenomenon. Fully illustrated with vivid photographs and evocative music, this talk offers a complete sensory experience. To bring history to life, Rosalind will be dressed in a stunning, story-appropriate period outfit!
