MEET THE ARTISTS:

The Unknown:

Drawing on influences from '90s grunge, classic rock, metal, and post-punk introspection, their sound is a combination of sludgy, hard-hitting guitar riffs, guitar solos inspired by the formative years of hard rock and traditional heavy metal, and lyrics that are meant to make the listener think. Whilst being deeply inspired by the music of the past, the band seeks to amalgamate their influences to create a unique sound, and their lyrics also deal heavily with the issues of the modern day and the current global landscape that young adults are now entering.

Toast:

Formed in 2019, The Toast is a South African rap-rave band pushing the boundaries of sound, energy, and genre. Featuring Jarid Swart on drums and SA Music Award-winning artist Becky Ladla on vocals, the band delivers a bold fusion of rap and rave, bringing together explosive beats, infectious rhythms, and an unapologetic approach to music. Driven by a desire to challenge convention and redefine the limits of sound, The Toast creates a unique sonic experience that blurs the lines between genres and transforms every performance into an electrifying collision of hip-hop and rave culture. Since their formation, The Toast have taken their sound to stages across the country, performing at numerous festivals and sharing stages with an impressive range of incredible local and national acts. With production by Nathan Rodnick, the band continues to develop a distinctive sound that celebrates experimentation, raw energy, and creative freedom. Unafraid to break the rules and carve out their own lane, The Toast are building a reputation as a force in South Africa’s alternative music scene, bringing their own brand of raprave chaos wherever they go.
