ABOUT

MONIQUE STEYN – A RARE BEAUTY WITH A STRIKING VOICE TO MATCH!

With her striking voice and rare beauty to match, MoniQue Steyn has become a sensation with her duet, “Hartseer”, with Ruhan du Toit of Touch of Class. She will be performing at Springbok Blues Restaurant, Sport & Live Entertainment venue, 25 Potgieter Street, Gants Centre, Strand on 14 March at 20:30 before her performance at Grand West in Afrikaans is Groot.

Pretoria-raised professional Afrikaans artist, MoniQue Steyn, has fast confirmed her place as major player in pop circles around the country. She chose to embrace the pop style and sensibility that helped to make America’s Kelly Clarkson great. After completing Grade 8 in singing, she studied music at Pretoria Technikon, which gave her light music text-book training, while her 6 years performing in Barnyard Theatres gave her the stage to become a true performer, in every sense of the word! Amongst the numerous high-profile shows that she performed in are: Richard Loring’s “Girl Talk” in 2000, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” (A Tribute to Elton Johan) and productions by Paul Buckby, to mention but a few. She participated in the first South African Idols Competition, imitating the likes of Enya, and ending amongst the top 50.

MoniQue’s debut title track, “Ek Val vir Jou”, a duet with none other than Snotkop, enjoyed massive support and the video was played so many times on YouTube that it was acknowledged for being the most downloaded song on the channel. Add two Tempo Awards (one for Best Dance Album and a second for Best Music Video) for “Ek Val vir Jou”. MK also dropped an award her way, again for the hit and the title track’s video. MoniQue’s debut clearly made a dent in Afrikaans pop, only to be pipped to the post by her second album, “Pienk Champagne” in 2013 with its explosion of originality that shakes great music making to its very core. With eight co-writing credits to her name on “Pienk Champagne” and the likes of Sean Butler’s producing on the album’s ballads, MoniQue Steyn has always kept good company.

The album’s hit singles “Ek Kan Jou Nie Vergeet Nie” reached Number Four on the Jacaranda Top 20 and the title track did just as well. With more chart-chumming singles still to break loose and show themselves, “Pienk Champagne”, the album, remains a high rotation staple, not only regional, but on national radio too. MoniQue’s niche is all about quality songs, all respectfully produced and carefully presented. “I believe I’m making music at the right time,” she admits. “I try to make music to the same standard that I am drawn to. There’s a new generation of fans who are interested in songs with real personality, and I intend on making music that sits squarley in that space.” Practice, professionalism, raw talent and quality production are what continue to attract fans of all ages too.

After the success of her crowned debut album, “Ek Val Vir Jou” in 2011 and her second solo album, “Pienk Champagne” and platinum status sales with the group, 4 Werke, her South African fans are waiting with bated breath for the release of her new, fresh, contemporary solo album, “Mosaïek”, which is being produced by the legendary Coleske Brothers and the celebrated songwriter, Johan Oberholzer. Songs like “Onder die Invloed”, “Treine” and “Vure Brand”, are about personal experiences. There is also a rendition of Barbara Dickson’s “Caravans” and the song, “Thy Will Be Done” ,originally sung by Hillary Scott of the group, Lady Antebellum. With the winning team, Johan Oberholzer as well-known and respected songwriter; Arnold Coleske’s creativity and passion for music and Paula Azevedo in control of the production of the album, MoniQue Steyn’s phenomenal voice, truly comes into its own.

Music fan, animal lover and genuine talent, MoniQue’s making music that affects change for the better. Pop, acoustic, and enthused by the likes of the late-great Eva Cassidy and Sara McLachlan, she’s stirred by greatness and aspired to match and even beat the mark each of these greats have made! Truly a show, not to be missed!
