Embodying the essence of South African rock, Watershed has journeyed from local acclaim to international recognition with their unmistakable sound and captivating performances.
Led by the intensely moving vocals and songwriting of Craig Hinds, Watershed's melodic guitar riffs and captivating lyrics have garnered them a legion of loyal fans that currently spans almost three decades. With a diverse repertoire, Watershed seamlessly transitions from acoustic guitars to pianos, mandolins to violins, ensuring each performance is a dynamic journey through their musical evolution. Since hitting the music scene with hits like 'Indigo Girl', 'Letters' and ‘Undone’, they have become synonymous with acoustic rock excellence.
The prolific band’s new single titled ‘My House’ is the first of a powerhouse-collection of new songs to celebrate twenty -six years of being Watershed. Their journey continues, fueled by a passion for their craft and an unwavering dedication to captivating audiences with their timeless melodies and electrifying performances. ‘My House’ launched on Friday 2 October.
“When the world is wrong and you find it hard to breathe
I want you to be next to me, I want to be
Come write a song, come into my house…”
Hinds says ‘My House’ is an invitation. “When you realize that we only find happiness by being together, it becomes easier to reach out to someone who is in pain. Invite someone who is stressed into a love-filled environment, reassuring them: “I’ll hold on for you while you clear your mind.”
The track was written by Hinds, produced by Hinds and Gideon Murray and finally engineered by Murray at Katalyst studios in Cape Town.
Watershed`s success extends beyond the borders of South Africa, with Watershed making waves at prestigious events like the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas, and Canadian Music Week. Their music found a particularly warm reception in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with their smash hit 'Indigo Girl', sparking a wildfire of enthusiasm among European listeners. Watershed have performed on all the biggest stages in South Africa and toured with the likes of David Grey, Roxette, The Cranberries, Simply Red, Deacon Blue and James to mention a few.
Beyond their musical prowess, Watershed has been recognized with multiple awards and nominations at the South African Music Awards (SAMA), cementing their status as one of the country's premier musical acts. Additionally, they've received accolades such as South Africa's Hottest Band by People Magazine and the People Crystal Award for Best Band. Watershed formed part of the first 46664 concert held at Greenpoint stadium in 2003.
