Jozi Offline: November Meet Up

Join us on Saturday, 21 November for a day of making, playing and simply being, with no screens in sight. It's the first of our monthly offline meet-ups, and we'd love you to be part of it. Put your phone away for a few hours and see where your attention wanders. Join us for a slow, screen-free day of art, crafts and board games at Emmerentia Park. Challenge yourself to be present in nature and with others.

What the day looks like

• Art and craft materials will be provided.
• Activities are one-on-one or in small groups, with board games on offer. Bring what you'd like to play too.
• There's no single activity for everyone. Drift towards what pulls you.
• Talk to people if you'd like to, or don't. Both are completely fine.
• The idea isn't to point your attention at a screen or a task, but to let it open up and see where it goes.
• The challenge: be present in nature and in company.

Good to know

• Venue: Emmerentia Park. The exact meeting spot will be shared with ticket holders.This location won't work for everyone. This is the first meet up of the 10 running into 2027. Give your suggestions on the next spot in the feedback link below to help prepare for the next gathering.

• Price: R80 per person, covering organising, crafts, art materials. If you can't cover this in full or in part (no questions asked), email us to secure your spot - the price point should not be a barrier to entry.

• Spots: 25

• Age: 18 and over

• Bring: your own snacks, sun protection, a hat and a blanket

• Water: bottled water will be available

• Photos: one group event photo at some point, and that's it

• Weather and cancellation: we'll make the weather call by Thursday 19 November. If we cancel due to weather or an emergency, you'll be refunded.

The one ask: devices off and away

You're welcome to use your phone for GPS or an Uber on the way. Once you arrive, please switch it off and put it away for the full time together. That also means no smartwatches and no headphones. You'll probably feel the urge to check something. Just notice that urge and let it pass. It gets easier, we promise.

We'll send a short feedback form. It's the most useful and most valuable thing you can give us as we shape these meet-ups together.
