ABOUT
New Moon Ecstatic dance for the Earth in us
According to the ancient Khoi tradition, their communities gathered every New Moon to co-create a sacred space under the stars, where dance and music would take them into transcendental states: ecstasy, trance, nervous system co-regulation and healing.
This tradition inspired New Moon Ecstatic dance — a collaboration of conscious dance DJs, contact improvisation facilitators, fire crew and dancing humans.
We dance to reconnect with our bodies, with one another, with the ocean, the mountains, the wind and the gifts of nature so generously given to us here in Cape Town. Through music and movement, we cultivate a deeper awareness of our spiritual responsibility to nourish and care for the living world.
Zero Alcohol • Zero Waste Zero Colonialism Earth consciousness

_______________
The New Earth will not emerge from technology, political systems or economic reforms alone. It will emerge from a transformation of human consciousness that embraces both humanity and the Earth. And this is what we cultivate together through dance.
An ecstatic dance wave is designed to awaken the rhythm within you, get your blood flowing and evoke deeply nourishing ecstatic states. Gabrielle Roth identified five rhythms — Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness — yet dance, music and movement have been central to Indigenous communal and spiritual traditions for thousands of years.
Modern ecstatic dance DJ sets weave together a variety of musical genres, creating a sonic journey that invites you to lose yourself in movement and return revived, flowing and connected.
Beyond personal healing and ecstasy, we invite you to experience dance as an expression of gratitude to the living Earth. We receive so much from nature. Through our presence, intentions and actions, we can learn to give back.
Our Values
Zero Waste. Respect the ocean and the living world around us. Bring what you need and take it all home. Leave nothing behind but footprints in the sand.
Zero Alcohol. Because dancing sober is its own revolution.
Zero Colonialism. A commitment to honouring Indigenous movement traditions, respecting ancestral wisdom, and cultivating a relationship with nature based on reciprocity instead of exploitation.
Earth Consciousness. We dance not only for ourselves, but to deepen our connection with the Earth and awaken our responsibility to nourish and protect life.
