From a homemade, one-string guitar crafted from an oil tin to international stages alongside some of the world’s finest musicians, Lucas Senyatso’s journey is a remarkable story of talent, dedication and the power of music.

Born in Motlhabeng in the North West province in South Africa , Lucas discovered his calling as a bassist at a young age. His career took a defining turn in 1998 when Hugh Masekela invited him to join his band, opening the door to international tours across the United States and Europe.

Since then, Lucas has established himself as one of South Africa’s respected bassists, performing and recording with celebrated artists including Sibongile Khumalo, Judith Sephuma, Themba Mkhize and Khaya Mahlangu. His international career has also taken him across Asia with The Lion King international touring production, while his own compositions showcase his depth as a musician and storyteller.

His latest recording project, Africa, released in 2024, reflects a lifelong relationship with music shaped by South African roots and a world of influences.
