The Theatrix Group are bringing their 20th production to audiences in November 2026, playing at the Daisy Jones on Summerhill Wine Farm outside Stellenbosch.
COUNTERPOINT / KONTRAPUNT merges old classical music with 20th century popular music and songs which were based, borrowed from or combined with classical music. This time the genres are performed simultaneously in real time (i.e. in counterpoint), melting the music seamlessly together, to great surprise of those listening to it. The arrangements by Rika Vermeulen create a fascinating experience, certainly while audiences try to identify the recognisable tunes amongst a multi-colored, seven voiced contrapunctal invention á la Bach.
The seven voices consist of vocal soprano, alto and baritone with viola, cello, double bass and piano / harpsichord as a string quartet.
Compositions include (amongst others) by J.S.Bach, Beethoven and Rachmaninoff, Paul McCartney, Eric Carmen Robert Plant & Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Barry Manilow etc. A fun eclectic mix, for sure.
Staging has costuming from 17th to 20th century dress and contemporary factors to create a visual spectacle to blend with the music.
A formal concert and loud rock show rolled into one is certain to entertain all music lovers slap-bang inside the music lover’s headquarters, The Daisy Jones Bar!
