ABOUT
Presented by Prism, a queer nightlife collective dedicated to creating spaces that uplift, inspire and remain accessible to our community. We invite you into a different kind of gathering…
“Prison, Honey: A Kiki Function” is brought to life by the House of Indecency as an exploration of incarceration, policing, punishment and rehabilitation and the people who exist within the systems built around them.
Prison is often spoken about in numbers, headlines and statistics. But behind every sentence is a person. Behind every cell is a story. And behind every system of punishment are questions about power, justice, accountability and what it really means to rehabilitate.
For Cape Town’s queer community, these conversations can carry another layer. Ballroom has always created space for people to be seen beyond the labels society places upon them. We take the language of the prison; the cell, the uniform, the sentence, the guard, the inmate, the institution and turn it into a night of performance, fashion, movement and commentary.
This is not a celebration of incarceration. It is an interrogation of it.
Through the lens of the Cape Town Kiki scene, Prison, Honey asks us to consider who gets punished, who gets protected, who gets forgotten and whether rehabilitation is truly possible when a system is built around confinement.
Expect a night that is dark, theatrical, provocative and unapologetically political, with categories inspired by the visual language and structures of incarceration reimagined through ballroom.
Come as the inmate.
Come as the authority.
Come as the system.
Come as the one who escaped it.
Whether you walk, watch, participate or simply hold space, you are entering the function.
The doors are locked.

The House is in session.
