Oil Pastel Class 2: The Art of Expression
Ready to take your oil pastel exploration a little further?
The Art of Expression builds on the foundations explored in Class 1 and invites you to use oil pastel more freely and confidently. This session is about discovering how colour, texture, layering, contrast and mark-making can communicate mood, atmosphere and feeling.
Rather than simply blending everything smooth, we’ll explore the expressive qualities of the medium — bold marks, visible layers, unexpected colour combinations and different ways of creating light and depth.
? In this session, you’ll explore:
- Creating depth through layering and contrast
- Warm and cool colour relationships
- Building light and shadow
- Expressive mark-making and texture
- Blending selectively to keep your marks alive
- Using colour to create mood and atmosphere
- Developing a reference image into your own interpretation
- Creating a finished artwork that feels uniquely yours
This is a relaxed, experimental space where there is no single “right” way to create. You’ll be encouraged to make choices, take creative risks and discover what happens when you let the medium lead you.
