The Herb House

A wild herb and flower garden

When Bridget Kitley had to move her herb nursery in 2010, she planted all her mother stock in the Herb House garden, placing each herb where it would grow best. As a result, the garden has a wonderful variety of herbs. A curry tree she grew from seed is now a beautiful four-metre sacred tree.

Jenny Muntingh lived in the Herb House after the 2017 drought. She re-established Bridget's garden and added more flowers and herbs, such as daisies, forget-me-nots, poppies, origanum and chillies.

In 2020, Carla, Christoff, Camille and their three furry friends moved in, bringing fragrant climbing roses, lemon, lime, tangerine and olive trees, indigenous jasmine and violets. They also added secret tunnels, reflective spaces and a tree house.

The Herb House garden has been a gift to all its custodians and visitors, a place of love, peace and wildness. Listen for birdsong, look out for geckos, lizards, butterflies, bees and a chameleon hiding on a branch, and breathe in the lingering scent of honeysuckle, lavender, sage and jasmine.
