Pensions in Motion: Accelerating Climate-Ready Investment for South Africa

Fossil Free South Africa and Just Share are co-hosting a CPD-accredited workshop grounded in fiduciary duty and framed around risk rather than advocacy.

We will be learning about the climate policy landscape and the PCC, integrating climate risk into a portfolio, and responsible investment policy in practice, amongst other topics. We'll also be joined by an esteemed panel from UCT's African Climate and Development Institute, Planetary Solvency, the Presidential Climate Commission, and more.

Why does this workshop matter?

South African retirement funds hold trillions of rand in long-term savings, much of it exposed to concentrated fossil fuel risk, yet an FSCA survey found that as recently as 2020 only 7 percent of funds had a climate policy, and only 2 percent were committed to sustainability-focused investments. Most trustees now accept that climate risk matters. Few have a practical route from acknowledging it to acting on it. This workshop builds that route, and it does so alongside the managers and consultants who are already doing the work.
