Dr Philip Southey's Symphony and Science

What happens when you combine piano, electric and Spanish guitars, an Irish whistle, synthesiser, djembe, Afrikaans rap… and a bagpipe? Come let the Doctor show you! Philip Southey is a physics lecturer by day and a multi-talented musician by weekend. He’ll be bringing the gees of his sell-out Woordfees performances, including a lightning-fast 12-minute history of classical piano music and a genre-defying kaleidoscopic journey through Celtic laments, jazz piano, ’80s synth electro-pop, African beats and Spanish guitar. There will even be a theatrical excursion into the science of sound – physics has never sounded so good! Nothing pre-recorded, Southey masterfully layers his instrumental compositions using a looping station, weaving drums, strings and flute into an intensely groovy tapestry.

Doors Open at 18h00. Show starts at 19h00.
