ABOUT
‘Opera Highlights’ brings together all three voice lecturers of the Odeion School of Music in concert with some of the most beautiful opera arias and duets. Mezzo-soprano, Teresa de Wit, baritone, Aubrey Lodewyk, and tenor, Albertus Engelbrecht, join forces with collaborative pianist and vocal coach Hans Potgieter, in a programme that focuses mainly on late-Romantic opera repertoire. Highlights include duets from Bizet’s Pearl Fishers, Rossini’s Barber of Seville, and Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana. The programme also includes famous mezzo-soprano arias such as ‘Stride la vampa’ from Verdi’s Il Trovatore and ‘Mon coeur s’ouvre a ta voix’ from Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila. Arias from Wagner’s operas Tannhäuser (O du mein holder Abendstern) and Die Walküre (Winterstürme), as well as Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (Kuda, kuda vi udalilis), also complement the evening. Lastly, scenes from the rarely performed opera, Die tote Stadt by Erich Korngold, will move the audience with its intoxicating music.
