News24 presents: The Builders’ Breakfast
What does it take to build something extraordinary in South Africa and who gets to write the rules?
Some companies just grow. Others rewrite the rules so completely that everyone else is left playing catch-up. Shoprite Checkers and Curro are two such institutions.
On Friday 16 October, News24 invites you to breakfast with Dr Chris van der Merwe (founding CEO of Curro and Stadio and the author of Curro: The Art of Creating True Wealth), and Steven Boykey Sidley (author of Checkmate: How Shoprite Checkers Rewrote the Rules and Won), for an unfiltered conversation about the decisions, the gambles, the failures, and the moments that changed everything.
News24’s business editor, Helena Wasserman – one of South Africa’s sharpest and most trusted voices in business storytelling – will be leading the conversation. Tickets are R350 per person and includes a buffet breakfast, coffee and tea.
The event details are:
- Friday 16 October 2026
- Nasdak, Media24 Building, Cape Town
- 07:30 for 08:00 (until 10:00)
- A buffet breakfast will be served after the panel discussion. Copies of the books will also be on sale.
- Tickets are R350 per person on Quicket.
This is an exclusive event for News24 subscribers and seats are limited. Make sure you get your ticket before they’re gone.
We are looking forward to hosting you.
