Girls On Bikes October #1

Oxford Parks
ABOUT
Time really does fly when you’re having fun especially when you’re on a bike cycling through different Joburg burbs.
And we know the girlies always want to know the route beforehand so they can “prepare”… but, lowkey, we know some of you are just checking whether you can chicken out before doing the hard thing.
Our rides are designed so that beginners can take on the route without feeling like they’re completely out of their depth, while seasoned riders still get enough of a challenge from the routes, not necessarily the speed.
We know there will naturally be a gap between beginner and seasoned riders, but don’t stress about that. That’s exactly why we have marshals on the ride. We ride together, and we’re only as fast as the last person.
The route will only be announced on the morning of the ride. But we promise we’re not going to send you somewhere we don’t think you can handle. Our starting point will also give you a little indication of the area, which is more than enough information to let you stop overthinking and just enjoy the ride.
Now that the house rules are out, our friends at Oxford Parks love it when we take over their space, so for October, we’ll be starting and ending our rides there.
The ride is intentionally social, so please plan for a full morning. We’re usually out for around 1.5–2 hours, depending on the group. Our standard route is around 10–15 km, and if the group is feeling strong, we might add a few extra kilometres but nothing we don’t think you can handle.
As the weather warms up, please make sure you come prepared with enough water and some nutrition. We can only provide water where available, so pack your own little snack to keep you fuelled along the way.
And then there’s the Joburg weather…
We’re hoping for beautiful, warm weather throughout, but if the rain decides to join us, we’ll either postpone the ride to the next available date or offer you a carry-over to the following ride.
Basically: come prepared, trust the process, and don’t let knowing the route be the thing that convinces you not to come. We’ve got you.

About the ride
- Have something light to eat, because riding bikes is a physical sport
- Bring along water and sweets to keep your sugar levels intact. If you have any conditions, please let us know before the ride so we are aware.
- The sun isn't at its peak YET, so please wear sunscreen and a hat
- We start rolling at 9:15'ish so please try to be on time. We would also love for you to be comfortable riding a bike with the assigned bike
- Please know your height, as our bikes are typically medium and if there is a need for a smaller bike, please visit the Banditz Bicycle Shop store at 44 Stanley to get a feel for the bikes.
- We unfortunately have a no-refund policy unless it is weather-related, so please be sure that when you book a bike, you will ride with us, as our rides are specific to the number of bikes we have available.
- Riding a bike is a little uncomfortable, so if possible, you can bring along a seat cover for extra cushioning.
