ABOUT
Join the SANParks Honorary Rangers of Johannesburg Region for a benefit performance of Leave Some for the Honey Badger, an inspiring story of conservation and friendship beautifully told by master story teller Michael Charton.
In 1952, a chance meeting in the Umfolozi Game Reserve brought together two very different men: Ian Player, a young man in search of adventure, and Magqubu Ntombela, an experienced game guard with a lifetime of knowledge of the Zululand bush. What followed was an extraordinary friendship that spanned more than three decades and left an enduring mark on wildlife conservation.
Leave Some for the Honey Badger is a celebration of that legacy, written & told by Michael Charton through a powerful human story of friendship, wisdom, wilderness, conservation and the lasting connections between ourselves, our ideas and the natural world.
About Michael Charton
Having qualified as a chartered accountant in 2004, Michael embarked on a traditional financial career. However, his subsequent studies in history lured him from his corporate career. Specifically, Michael came to believe that the craft of historical storytelling had the potential to transform South Africa’s traumatic past into a source of unity and human connection. By 2015 this idea was sufficiently precise, prompting him to exit his financial career and develop a series of non-fiction stories, each inspiring human connection and fresh curiosity in South Africa’s past and its peoples.
