VWS Open Day 2026

The Volunteer Wildfire Services Open Day will be hosted at the Newlands Fire Base on 28 November 2026 between 09:00 and 16:00 with free entrance for all children.

VWS Open Day is all about fun activities and raising awareness about wildfire and fynbos.

The VWS will once again provide a fun-filled day for the whole family to learn about fire, engage in fun activities, meet our firefighters and enjoy fantastic shows which include thrilling firefighting displays!

Fun activities to look forward to include:

• abseiling
• fire truck rides
• face-painting
• tug-of-war
• obstacle course
• exhibitors
• And of course the famous Open Day bubble and water party

The Volunteer Wildfire Services is a volunteer organisation dedicated to the combating of wildfires across the Western Cape. It has over 350 volunteers across four stations (Newlands, Stellenbosch, South Peninsula and Helderberg).

As a non-profit volunteer organisation, the Volunteer Wildfire Services needs ongoing funding and relies on donations from the public and businesses to meet our annual running costs.

Open Day is one of the annual fundraising events that help ensure that the VWS can fight wildfires safely and effectively.

Important note about tickets and registration:

Attendance for children is FREE but parents, caregivers or teachers of the children will have to pre-register the children via a Quicket ticket. This will be compulsory to allow them to partake in the various activities on the day. There is a nominal entrance fee for adults.
