Care is one of society's most essential forms of work, yet one of its least visible.

When a child becomes seriously ill, healing depends on far more than medicine. It relies on families, caregivers, healthcare workers, designers, volunteers and communities—an ecosystem that makes recovery possible.

At TEDxJohannesburg Salon: The Care Economy, speakers from health, economics, design, psychology, public policy and the arts will explore how care shapes healthier people, stronger communities and more resilient societies. Through new ideas and lived experience, they will challenge assumptions, inspire collaboration and show that our future depends not only on what we build, but on how well we care for one another.

Supported by Ronald McDonald House South Africa, the Salon takes place at Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital on 29 October 2026, bringing together business leaders, philanthropists, healthcare professionals and the public to explore one simple but profound question:
