Buhlebendalo at Hugh's Jazz Club

Buhlebendalo rose to prominence as a founding member of The Soil, the internationally-acclaimed a cappella group that popularised “kasi soul” — a blend of jazz, hip-hop, afro-pop, beatboxing and traditional South African influences.

With The Soil, she performed on major international stages: e.g. New York’s Apollo Theatre, global festivals, and had platinum / double-platinum albums.

In 2023, she officially announced her departure from The Soil to pursue a solo career and artistic independence.

Since going solo, she has framed her artistry as not only musical but spiritual, social and political — using her voice and platform to speak on womanhood, queerness, identity, healing and community.

She founded an artist-hub / programme for women, children and queer people, aiming to uplift marginalised voices through mentorship and community building.

In November 2025, she performed at the We The 99% People’s Summit — a politically and culturally significant event tied to justice, equality and collective activism. Her performance was more than music — framed as spiritual and political statement.

In interviews she has emphasized that her solo career gives her “freedom” to express her truth as a queer, Black, spiritually aware woman — beyond being just a singer, but a brand and movement.

Alongside music, she continues activism and community upliftment via her initiatives supporting youth, choirs in schools, marginalized communities (women, queer, children) — highlighting social responsibility as core to her mission.
