The Magic of Mushrooms 2026

Jon Mac Gillivray takes you through an one hour online presentation live, covering many of South Africa's colorful and interesting fungi. From the fungi's lifecycle, and their distribution, to some of the deeper aspects of the mycological world.

This online presentation will also cover the many intricate ways in which fungi connects the various aspects of the natural environment, how fungi is essentially the nervous system of the forest.

During the presentation we will go individually through the key species to consider when mushroom hunting in South Africa. All this will be framed in the many stories and lessons learnt through adventures in the wilds hunting the actual mushrooms down.

A couple polls will be running live during the presentation in the chat the results of which will be read at the end, and for 20 mins afterwards I will get to the best questions that have been left in the live chat.
