Cape Town's longest-running improv company brings something very different to The Galloway: BAT, an entirely improvised play performed in complete darkness.

With more than three decades at the forefront of improvisation in Cape Town, ImproGuise has built a reputation for creating spontaneous, inventive and unpredictable theatre. The company has also been recognised with two Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, including the Award for Innovation in Theatre and the People's Choice Award.

Now the award-winning troupe is turning off the lights.

No sets. No costumes to admire. No facial expressions. No visual clues.

Instead, the performers create characters, relationships, scenes and an unfolding story using only voice, sound, atmosphere and imagination.

Inspired by the world of classic radio drama, BAT invites the audience to create the pictures themselves. A creaking door becomes a location. Footsteps become a character. A voice in the darkness can transport you anywhere.

And because it's ImproGuise, none of it is planned. Every character, every scene and every twist is created in the moment.

The result is immersive, cinematic, unpredictable, and often hilariously funny.

In a theatre landscape filled with things to look at, BAT asks you to do something different: close your eyes, and open your imagination.
