Presenters:

Simon Cregeen will present a case study of a latency girl in care. The presentation explores themes of disorientation, uncertain identities, and the uncanny, drawing from clinical work with Maria, a latency-aged girl in care.

Simon’s clinical experience highlights the complexities of working with adopted children and children in care, including experiences of strangeness, belonging and not belonging, and the challenges children may face in forming secure relationships and finding a sense of identity.

Lynne Goldschmidt will discuss the therapeutic and ethical issues of working with adopted children and children in care within the South African context.

About the Presenters

Simon Cregeen

Simon Cregeen is a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and a Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. He recently retired from the NHS, where his work was primarily with adopted and looked-after children, adolescents, parents and networks. Simon now works independently with adolescents and couples in Manchester, supervises colleagues, and is part of the BPF couple psychotherapy training team. He has published on work with children, adolescents, parents and couples.
