Trio Joie de Vivre: Original Voices

Trio Joie de Vivre presents Original Voices, a programme of music composed specifically for flute, bassoon and piano.

The programme spans more than two centuries. Amédée Rasetti’s Trio in C major, Op. 13 No. 2 is rooted in the Classical tradition, while Gaetano Donizetti’s youthful Trio, A. 507 gives us the future opera composer in an intimate chamber setting, with the lyrical melodies that would become such a distinctive feature of his music.

Gary Schocker’s witty and virtuosic Sonate Soufflé (2002) brings us firmly into the contemporary repertoire. Its three movements, Batter, Matter and Patter, reveal Schocker’s characteristic humour and rhythmic energy.

The collection also includes three contemporary character pieces by Grant Horsley. Violette (A Love Theme) draws on Romantic and film music, Sunshine is a jazz waltz with an improvisatory middle section, and Nocturne looks back to the lyrical nineteenth-century nocturne tradition.
