ABOUT
Two distinguished choirs come together at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre for a shared evening of choral music.
National Youth Choir of Germany
The National Youth Choir of Germany (Bundesjugendchor) brings together around 50 exceptional singers aged 18 to 26 under the artistic direction of Anne Kohler. As a flagship ensemble of the Deutscher Musikrat, the choir performs demanding repertoire spanning the Renaissance to contemporary music. Its 2026 visit to South Africa marks its first intercontinental project and creates opportunities for musical exchange with leading South African choirs, including the Stellenbosch University Choir.
Stellenbosch University Choir
The Stellenbosch University Choir, conducted by André van der Merwe, celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2026. Internationally acclaimed and ranked by INTERKULTUR as the world’s leading amateur choir for more than a decade, the ensemble earned three gold awards at the 2025 European Choir Games in Aarhus. The choir honours its rich history while continually pushing artistic boundaries, balancing tradition and innovation as each generation shapes its distinctive sound and character.
During this shared concert, each choir will present selections from its repertoire, highlighting its individual musical identity while celebrating choral excellence and cultural exchange.
