The Robin Auld Band with Kevin Gibson, Schalk Joubert and Tonia Moller live at Daisy Jones

There are some songs you know before you even know you know them.

“All of Woman”, “Baby You Been Good”, “Perfect Day”, “Zen Surfing” — Robin Auld has been part of the South African soundtrack for decades. But these days, the sound has moved beyond the pop-rock of his early years into something earthier, looser and deeply rooted in blues, soul and African guitar traditions.

Born in Lusaka to Scottish parents and raised between Southern Africa and Scotland, Auld’s music carries both worlds in it. Add slide guitar, harmonica, soulful vocals and the influence of Hendrix, Ry Cooder, Neil Young and the guitar traditions of Southern Africa, and you get a sound that is unmistakably Robin Auld.

His latest album, The Everlovin’ Wind, has been met with serious love, with singles “Underground” and “Country Mile” reaching No. 4 and No. 1 respectively on the Mix FM SA Top 40.
