“Best of Both Concert Series” presents Piano Fantasia & Disney Jazz

Francois Botha and Yohan Chun team up again for this once-off, not-to-be missed concert. This programme is guaranteed to have something to delight every person who attends. The first half features some of the most popular classical hits of all time as featured in the soundtracks of Disney's Fantasia movies of 1940 & 2000 specially arranged for four hands on one piano. Paul Dukas's 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' and Ponchielli's 'Dance of the Hours' among others; while in the second half, Disney Jazz comprises of some of the best-loved songs from movies such as "The Jungle Book", "Lady and the Tramp" and "Toy Story" and will have you singing along. The music takes place in the stunning acoustics of the Pinelands Dutch Reformed church on a world class Steinway grand piano and this concert will feature two of Cape Town's veteran Jazz musicians: Dan Shout on Saxophone and Kevin Gibson on Drums.

THE ARTISTS:

Dan Shout (Sax)

Zimbabwean-born, Namibian-raised, South African saxophonist, Dan Shout, is a respected and sought-after saxophonist based in Cape Town. With a career spanning over two decades, Dan has performed and recorded in more than 30 countries across five continents, sharing stages with the likes of Johnny Clegg, Winston Mankunku, Maria Schneider, Gordon Vernick, Nils Landgren, Mike Campbell, Robin Auld, The Blues Broers, Moonshine, the SHOUT Big Band, In With a Shout and the Dan Shout Quartet.

Kevin Gibson (Drums)

Kevin Gibson was born in Durban, and began performing as a drummer with local musicians from the age of 13. He studied at the University of Natal with Darius Brubeck for 2 years, Berklee College of Music for 3 months and North Florida University for 6 months. He taught drums at UCT for 4 years after moving to Cape Town in 1991, where he currently resides. He has performed and recorded with numerous local and visiting musicians and has travelled to Europe, Russia, USA, Cuba,

UK, Canada and North Africa. He performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival every year from 1999 to 2003.

Yohan Chun

Yohan is a South Korean pianist, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist working in Cape Town, at home in classical, jazz, popular, opera and musical theatre circles. She has toured Asia with The Sound of Music, played as soloist at the Baxter, Artscape and the Durban and Cape Town City Halls, and has just returned from more than two years performing on Disney Cruise Ships with her husband, Francois Botha. BMus Honours, UCT; winner of the FMR Bursary Competition.

Francois Botha

Francois Botha is a pianist, double bassist and vocalist active in Cape Town’s classical, jazz and popular music scenes. He has worked with artists including Andrea Bocelli and Stephen Hough, toured Asia with The Sound of Music and Phantom of the Opera, and performed at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Philharmonie in Berlin. Most recently he performed with his wife, Yohan Chun, on Disney Cruise Lines. BMus Honours, UCT; winner of the FMR Bursary Competition.
