ABOUT
For this concert, the PSQ opens with Joseph Haydn's String Quartet in D minor, Op. 76 No. 2, affectionately known as "The Fifths." Composed in 1797, this masterful work is named after its distinctive opening theme built on descending fifths. The quartet journeys from dramatic intensity to a lively and triumphant finale in D major.
The programme continues with Maurice Ravel's String Quartet in F major, his only work for this ensemble. Dedicated to his teacher, Gabriel Fauré, the quartet is celebrated for its rich harmonies, luminous textures, and refined elegance, combining Classical form with Impressionist colour.
The concert concludes with "Spring" (La Primavera) from Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. One of the most recognisable works in the classical repertoire, this vibrant concerto paints vivid musical scenes of birdsong, flowing streams, a passing storm, and joyful country dances, bringing the beauty and vitality of spring to life.
