"Dead Dad " Louw Venter

Award winning writer/performer, Louw Venter, who first rose to fame as Corné from Corné and Twakkie in The Most Amazing Show, presents his new one-man show Dead Dad, which opened at the Kalk Bay Theatre earlier this year. This cutting dark comedy is the sequel to his smash hit The Best Man’s Speech, which ran for five years in theatres all over the country, was translated into Afrikaans as Strooijonker, and eventually became the feature film Konfetti. Directed by comedy legend Rob Van Vuuren, Venter reprises his role as the hapless Lukas. But this time, instead of delivering a catastrophic speech at his best friend’s wedding, Lukas is tasked with delivering his father’s eulogy. What follows is a spectacular emotional derailment. Through razor-sharp writing and a powerhouse comedic performance, Lukas bumbles his way through an epic emotional journey in front of friends and family, veering violently between the divine and the catastrophic. Dead Dad is a rare chance to look grief in the eye, give it a good slap in the face, and realise your life is probably not as bad as you thought. DEAD DAD IS COMING TO CAMEL ROCK! Dead Dad returns from a triumphant run at Hilton Arts Festival and will be performed as a special sight specific immersive theatre experience at Camel Rock Restaurant on August the 22nd. Guests are encouraged to dress “sombre formal” for the occasion and expect to be fully immersed in the unfolding drama in real-time. Show starts after Rugby so it's a double feature !
